Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled a statue of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Mauritius today. It was his first visit to the island nation.
During his visit, Mr Fadnavis also met representatives of Mauritian companies in an event organised by the Mauritius India Business Community.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji always say that India lives in the states. He always encourages states to interact more with foreign countries, with foreign governments. Because he feels that such types of relationships will be more fruitful and I think that's what brings me here. Here we are in this business forum talking about not just our historic relationship but also about our shared future," Mr Fadnavis said.
"We know that under the leadership of PM Modi, India is heading the G20 presidency and the logo and motto of the G20 is 'one earth, one family, one future'... And I see the manifestation of these ethos when I come to Mauritius because when I interact with the people here I feel I have come to my extended family," Mr Fadnavis said.
He said he was impressed with the progress which Mauritius has achieved and the infrastructure it has created.
He will also attend an event with Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth to sign agreements in the tourism sector.
Mr Fadnavis and Mr Jugnauth attended a cultural event organised by the Maharashtrian community in the island nation.
Tomorrow, the Deputy Chief Minister will meet members of the Maharashtrian community and also call on Mauritian President Prithvirajsing Roopun.
